Zucchini

Planting season: year round in tropical climates; Sow squash seeds in the garden–or set out seedlings started indoors–only after the soil has warmed to at least 16°C, usually no sooner than 3 weeks after the last frost in spring. Sow seed indoors in biodegradable peat or paper pots that can be set directly in the garden so as not to disturb plant roots. Start squashes indoors as early as 4 weeks before the last average frost date in spring.
Soil: well drained, fertile, loamy soil rich in organic matter. pH: 5.5-6.8.
Sowing depth: 1.5-2cm deep;
Spacing: 0.6-0.9m apart.
Light: full sun;
Watering: regular (to keep soil moist, but not soggy wet) and consistent (best when soil starts to get dry to the touch). Water most diligently when fruits form and throughout their growth period.
Fertilizing: zucchini is a heavy feeder, work compost and plenty of organic matter into the soil before planting for a rich soil base. Fertilize when first blooms appear, applying a small amount as a side dress application. After harvest begins, fertilize occasionally for vigorous growth and abundance of fruits. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Growth Activator to speed up the germination of the seeds, support healthy growth and promote increased yields.
Pests & diseases: squash bugs, squash borers, and cucumber beetles. Bacterial wilt, powdery mildew, mosaic virus, blossom end rot. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Neem Oil for natural overall protection and treatment againsts pests and various diseases.
Companion plants: nasturtiums, bush beans and peas.
