Thyme

Planting season: year round in tropical climates; in temperate climate plant indoors as early as 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost in spring. Start seed indoors at a soil temperature of 21C under fluorescent lights. Seeds can take as long as 30 days to germinate. Transplant thyme seedlings to the garden once the last frost has passed.
Soil: grows best in well-drained slightly sandy soil. Soil too rich in organic matter will produce plants that are large but less fragrant. Best soil pH of 6.0 to 6.7.
Sowing depth: 0.5cm deep.
Spacing: If grown directly in the ground outdoors, thin seedlings to 30cm apart when they are 5-7cm tall. Space rows 40-60cm apart.
Light: very bright location with plenty of sunlight. Thyme should get at least 6-8h of sunlight a day for the best performance. If the afternoon sun is burning hot, provide some shade. For container growing: Thyme grows easily in containers. Choose a container with a minimum soil depth of 15cm.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist until plants are well-rooted. Thyme requires little watering once established; once established thyme grows best in soil that is on the dry side.
Fertilizing: we recommend using TSM Organic Growth Activator to speed up the germination of the seeds, support healthy growth and promote increased yields.
Pests & diseases: Aphids, mealybugs, spider mites may attack thyme. susceptible to fungal diseases and root rot. Avoid root rot by keeping plants out of wet areas. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Neem Oil for a natural overall protection & treatments against pests and diseases.
Companion plants: cabbage family plants, eggplant, potatoes, strawberries, and tomatoes. Plant thyme with hyssop, garlic, chives, and rosemary. The fragrance of thyme is said to repel pest insects and mask the smell of plants that attract pest insects.
