Melons

Planting season: year round in tropical climate; in temperate climates start cantaloupe seed indoors 6 weeks before transplanting seedlings into the garden or sow the seed in the garden 3 to 4 weeks after the last average frost date in spring. Seeds will germinate in about 10-14 days.
Soil: loose, well-drained, loamy soil rich in organic matter with a pH of 6.0 to 6.8.
Sowing depth: 2.5cm deep.
Spacing: 45cm apart if planting directly in the ground in the garden. If grown in containers, choose a spacious and grow one plant per pot. Container should be at least 45cm wide and deep that can support a vining plant. Place a trellis or other support next to the plant to save space and increase yields.
Sun: full sun (6-8h a day for the best performance). If the afternoon sun is burning hot, provide some shade.
Moisture: Melons require plentiful regular, even watering for quick growing. Even and regular to keep the soil well moist but not wet. Keep the soil around melons evenly moist from planting until the fruit begins to develop.
Fertilizing: We highly recommend using TSM Organic Growth Activator to speed up the germination of the seeds, support healthy growth and promote increased yields.
Pests & diseases: Aphids and spotted and striped cucumber beetles. Susceptible to wilt, Alternaria leaf spot, stem blight, powdery and downy mildew, and root rot. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Neem Oil for a natural overall protection & treatments against pests and diseases.
Companion plants: Plant melons with corn, radishes, beans, and nasturtiums. Herbs such as dill or bee balm near melons will attract pollinators.
