Basil Sweet ‘Holy’, 200 seeds (Ocimum sanctum) Herb Heirloom

Also commonly called tulsi is highly valued for its aromatic leaves and world known medicinal properties. The plant is widely used in Ayurvedic and folk medicine, often as herbal tea for a variety of ailments. It’s known to have antidiabetic, antimicrobial and antioxidant, anti-stress properties. It’s also used as culinary herb with pungent flavor that intensifies with cooking. It’s reminiscent of clove, Italian basil and mint with a hint of peppery spiciness. Growing as a small, pretty shrub reaching up to 1m tall with highly fragrant leaves and small purple flowers. Super easy and fast growing, perfect for pots/containers, balconies and limited spaces, as well as herbal/flower gardens. One of the most valuable basil varieties. Matures in 45-50 days.

Growing: year round in tropical climates; in temperate climates start basil indoors as early as 6 weeks before the last frost for planting out in the garden after the weather has warmed—about three or more weeks after the last frost. Basil seed will germinate in about 7 to 10 days.

Soil: well-drained, fertile sandy loam with a soil pH of 5.5 to 7.5. Soil too rich in organic matter or nitrogen will result in lush foliage but low oil content which can affect the strength of flavor and fragrance. It will even grow in poor soil that is well-drained.
Sowing depth: 0.3-0.6cm deep, covering seeds lightly (do not bury deeply).
Spacing: if grown in pots, grow 1-2 plants per pot. If grown in the ground directly in the garden space the plants 30-45cm apart.
Light: Plant in full sun, 6 to 8 hours of sun each day. If the afternoon sun is burning hot, provide some shade. Basil can tolerate light shade. It will grow easily in a sunny window.
Moisture: Keep the soil just moist; basil prefers moist but not wet soil. Leaves will wilt when basil needs water.
Fertilizing: two-three times during the growing season. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Growth Activator to speed up the germination of the seeds, support healthy growth and promote abundant flowering, intense flavor and robust foliage.
Pests & diseases: snails, slugs, aphids. Damping-off and fusarium wilt are two fungal diseases that can attack basil. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Neem Oil for a natural overall protection & treatments against pests and diseases.
Companion plants: Plant basil near tomatoes and peppers to enhance their growth and flavor. The aroma of basil will repel many garden pest insects including flies and mosquitos.

The TSM Guarantee: It's our promise to ensure that all our products are strictly Non-GMO, and free from any possible harmful chemical compounds. All come from trusted and carefully selected small non commercial farmers worldwide providing fresh, safe supply.
