Growing:
Germination (Soil or Moist Towel Method):
Sow directly 0.5 cm deep in moist fine seed-starting soil, or pre-sprout using the moist paper towel method: place seeds between damp (not dripping) paper towels inside a ziplock bag or sealed container. Keep warm at 24–30°C and check daily. Once tiny roots appear (usually 3–7 days), transplant carefully root-down into soil. Keep evenly moist but never soggy.
☀️ Sun & Tropical Care:
Requires 6–8+ hours full sun for best sweetness and heavy fruiting. In Singapore humidity, strong airflow is essential to prevent fungal issues. Morning direct sun is especially valuable. Protect from prolonged heavy tropical rain.
Soil, Water & Feeding:
Use rich fertile well-draining soil in 8–15L containers with excellent drainage. Water deeply whenever top 2–3 cm begins drying. Feed every 7–10 days with balanced fertilizer, switching to potassium-rich tomato feed once flowers appear.
Pollination (Important for Indoor & Balcony Growing):
Tomatoes are self-pollinating but often need help indoors. Once flowers open, gently shake flowering stems daily or tap flower clusters lightly around late morning to release pollen. A small soft brush or electric toothbrush held against flower stems for a few seconds works extremely well and improves fruit set.
Growth & Fruiting:
No heavy pruning needed. This determinate trailing type naturally forms a compact fruiting cascade. Harvest regularly once fruits turn glossy bright red for continued production.
Pests & Prevention:
Watch for whiteflies, spider mites, aphids, fungal spots, and yellowing lower leaves in humid weather. Maintain strong airflow, avoid wet foliage overnight, and remove ageing leaves promptly. Neem oil may be used if needed.
