Growing:
Germination:
Sow seeds directly into final pots or ground at 2–3 cm depth in moist, rich well-draining soil. Germinates in 5–10 days at 24–32°C. Keep evenly moist during sprouting. Direct sowing is strongly recommended as pumpkins dislike root disturbance.
☀️ Sun & Tropical Care:
Requires full sun (6–8 hours daily) for strong fruiting. Thrives in Singapore heat and humidity. Ensure strong airflow and give vines room to spread or provide trellis support if growing vertically. Hand-pollination may improve fruit set in small-space gardens.
Soil, Water & Feeding: Use rich compost-enriched soil in large 30–50L containers. Water deeply and consistently, especially during flowering and fruiting. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged. Feed every 2 weeks with balanced fertilizer, switching to higher potassium feed once flowering begins for larger sweeter fruits.
Growth & Fruiting:
Vines spread quickly. Pinch excess side shoots if space is limited. Harvest when skin hardens fully and stem begins drying. Mature fruits store well after harvest.
Pests & Prevention:
Watch for aphids, whiteflies, powdery mildew, and fruit rot in humid weather. Ensure airflow, avoid wet foliage overnight, and mulch under fruits to keep them dry. Neem oil may be used if needed.
