Medium late bulb onion heirloom ready for harvest in 129-132 days. Bulbs are unique drop shaped, 160-165g (5.64-5.82oz), 12-15cm (4.72-5.9in) long and 5cm (1.96in) wide, covered with shinny light brown colour shell. Popular for great, luscious, sweet and slightly spicy flavour. Best eaten fresh in salads, wraps, garnishes etc. Suitable for storage through winter. Cold season crop which is very easy to grow because of their hardiness.
Growing: Not suitable for tropical climate.
Planting season: early spring, indoors, 6 weeks prior transplanting. Direct seeding as soon as the soil can be worked, usually late March or April. The temp shouldn't go below 20F (-6C).
Soil: well drained, fertile soil, rich in organic matter.
Sowing depth: 1in (2.5cm) deep.
Spacing: 4-5in (10-12cm) between each plant.
Spacing in rows: 12-18in (30-45cm) apart.
Light: Full sun.
Moisture: regular to keep the soil evenly moist.
Fertilizing: Onions are heavy feeders, so put in aged manure or fertilizer before planting. Needs consistent nourishment to produce big bulbs. At planting time, mix in some nitrogen fertilizer and side dress every few weeks until the bulb forming process begins.
