Growing:
Seeds & germination: Germination 7–10 days. Soak seeds 4–6 hours → sow 2 cm deep in small pots.
Keep at 28–35 °C (normal Singapore weather is perfect). Full sun from day one – these love the heat!
Final pot or bed: Minimum 40–50 cm wide × 40 cm deep pot (one plant per pot) or 1 m spacing in ground.
Soil mix: 50 % garden soil/compost + 50 % coco peat + perlite for drainage.
Sun & position: 6–8 hours direct tropical sun – the more sun, the sweeter the pumpkins!
Watering: Daily in pots (best when soil starts to feel dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering), every 2 days in ground. Keep soil moist but never waterlogged.
Feeding (the secret to loads of nuggets): Week 3–8: once a week with tomato/fruit vegetable fertilizer (high potassium). When fruits start forming: extra potassium boost (e.g., Mr Ganick 888 or wood ash).
Pollination hack (essential in tropics): Hand-pollinate in the morning: pick male flower → rub inside female flower (the one with tiny pumpkin at base). Takes 10 seconds, doubles your harvest!
Harvest: When skin is hard and deep orange (80–95 days). Cut with 5 cm stem – they store 2–3 months.
