Ice Plant, 100 seeds (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) Flower Heirloom

Very special ornamental succulent plant with daisy-like flowered that look like constantly covered with frost. This beautiful, perennial ground-cover grows only up to 7.5-15cm tall and look astonishing with bright, pink and white color flowers.  Besides their ornamental appearance it’s also used in gourmet cuisine: leaves cooked or raw are being used like spinach. They are also great as food décor detail. The flowers open in the morning and close at night. Fast and easy growing, with minimum care required. Perfect for small spaces, indoors and outdoors.

Growing: year round in tropical climate; in temperate climates sow 4-6 weeks before the last frost. Press seeds into the soil but do not cover as they need light for germination. Use a seed-starting formula as soil. Keep moist until germination.
Seedlings emerge in 15-20 days. As soon as seedlings emerge, provide plenty of light on a sunny windowsill or grow seedlings 3-4 inches beneath fluorescent plant lights turned on 16 hours per day, off for 8 hours at night. Raise the lights as the plants grow taller. Incandescent bulbs will not work for this process because they will get too hot. Most plants require a dark period to grow, do not leave lights on for 24 hours. Transplant to the garden after the danger of all frost is gone.

Soil: loamy, well-drained with a neutral pH. Dry soil with excellent drainage is essential for an ice plant. The plant will suffer under conditions that are constantly moist, and it won't grow at all in dense clay soil. Sandy and gravelly soils are ideal for this plant. The soil does not need to be rich in nutrients.
Sowing depth: Press seeds into the soil but do not cover as they need light for germination.
Light: Ice plants need a considerable amount of full sun to ensure that they flower profusely. Sun-starved plants tend to get leggy with weak growth. Be sure to provide them with at least six hours of direct sunlight (if afternoon sun is too strong, provide some shade).
Moisture: Once established, water your ice plant sparingly during the growing season. One watering every two weeks should be sufficient during periods when there is no rainfall, though a weekly watering might be necessary during hot weather. Let your ice plant dry out before winter, so it's not sitting in soil that is too moist.
Fertilizing: It can be helpful to add compost or a slow-release fertilizer made for flowers, following label instructions, when planting. Ice plants can also do well with no feeding whatsoever. However, container-grown ice plants are likely to need feeding, as the soil nutrients in pots become depleted more quickly than garden soil. Weak growth or a lack of blooms can be signs that feeding is necessary.
