Basil ‘Dwarf Greek’, 150 seeds (Ocimum basilicum) Herb Heirloom

Very popular dwarf basil variety growing only 12-20cm tall and looking highly decorative and prized by chefs in the kitchen for its savory flavor. It has much smaller leaves with more intense flavor compared other basil varieties and looks incredible whether grown in pots/containers/balconies/on a kitchen windowsill or directly in the garden. Due to its size and beautiful appearance, it’s popular to be given as gifts. Its warm, slightly anise flavor gives a beautiful touch to a wide variety of dishes, whether raw or cooked. Light pink flower spikes add extra décor detail to this lovely plant making it even more attractive. Matures in 45-50 days.

Growing: year round in tropical climates; in temperate climates start basil indoors as early as 6 weeks before the last frost for planting out in the garden after the weather has warmed—about three or more weeks after the last frost. Basil seed will germinate in about 7 to 10 days.

Soil: well-drained, fertile sandy loam with a soil pH of 5.5 to 7.5. Soil too rich in organic matter or nitrogen will result in lush foliage but low oil content which can affect the strength of flavor and fragrance. It will even grow in poor soil that is well-drained.
Sowing depth: 0.3-0.6cm deep, covering seeds lightly (do not bury deeply).
Spacing: if grown in pots, grow 1-2 plants per pot. If grown in the ground directly in the garden space the plants 30-45cm apart.
Light: Plant in full sun, 6 to 8 hours of sun each day. If the afternoon sun is burning hot, provide some shade. Basil can tolerate light shade. It will grow easily in a sunny window.
Moisture: Keep the soil just moist; basil prefers moist but not wet soil. Leaves will wilt when basil needs water.
Fertilizing: two-three times during the growing season. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Growth Activator to speed up the germination of the seeds, support healthy growth and promote abundant flowering, intense flavor and robust foliage.
Pests & diseases: snails, slugs, aphids. Damping-off and fusarium wilt are two fungal diseases that can attack basil. We highly recommend using TSM Organic Neem Oil for a natural overall protection & treatments against pests and diseases.
Companion plants: Plant basil near tomatoes and peppers to enhance their growth and flavor. The aroma of basil will repel many garden pest insects including flies and mosquitos.
