Also commonly called bear's breeches, is a very unique, perennial plant with underground rhizome growing up to 80cm (31.4in) tall. Flowers bloom abundantly and long, adding impressive look & touch in gardens, balconies, windowsills and yards. The plant is handsome, lobed foliage and tall, erect racemes of two-lipped flowers with colourful bracts. Cold resistant and grows for 3-4 years in the same place.
Growing: Posses large seeds which can be soaked in water for 24h before planting to speed up the germination.
Planting season: year round in tropical climate; in temperate climate start the seeds 6-8 weeks prior the last frost indoors or directly inside the grown after the danger of last frost is gone and soil has warmed up.
Soil: light, fertile, well-draining.
Sowing depth: 2cm (0.7in) deep.
Spacing: 75cmx75cm (29.5x25.9in).
Light: full sun/partial shade.
Watering: regular to keep the soil moist, yet not soggy.
Germination: takes about 25-30 days to germinate.
