Perennial grown as biennial, 60cm (23.6in) tall and 10cm (3.9in) wide delightfully fragrant flowers blooming all summer long. Clusters of sweetly scented flowers come in vivid red colour, borne atop stiff upright stems from Jun through to Sep. Superb for cutting for a vase indoors, the vibrant flowers are also attractive to bees. The clove like tasting petals add a great touch to cakes, either for flavour or decoratin, suitable for soups, salads and sauces. Cold hardy, overwinters outside uncovered. Grows in the same place for many years.
Growing: Not suitable for tropical climate.
Planting season: spring, indoors, 4-6 weeks prior the last frost; direct seeding after the last frost (May to Jun).
Soil: well drained, fertile, preferably rich in organic matter.
Sowing depth: 0.4in (1cm) deep.
Spacing: 12in (30cm) apart.
Light: full sun/partial shade.
Watering: regular to keep the soil moist.
Fertilizing: optional.
Seeds germinate within 14-30 days.
